I have good news and bad news... The bad news is that the two petal beads that I was getting ready to put up for auction are missing in action. I swear, I can't find them anywhere - and believe me... I'm organized. So it's going to be while before those are available because I hadn't yet photographed them. Hopefully they're in a "safe" place; that's typically where most of my "lost" things are, in a nice, safe place. The good news is that I have a "Rainbow Petal" bead, a small set of beads and a matching focal bead that will be available for purchase within the next few days. I haven't decided if I'm going to give it a set price and put it on Etsy or let you all decide its worth and put it on ebay. I'll let you know what I decide.
Oh! I just started a Facebook page for my beads as well. Granted, I already have a website, but I like the fact that Facebook is more interactive, so if you're a member of Facebook and you'd like to "friend request" me, just click here!
Until the new beads are photographed and ready, let me leave you with a really happy photograph that Steve took at an organic farm we visited in the Moses Lake area of Washington recently - I love this picture!

Hi everyone! Yeah, it's been a long time since I've checked in here, but I am alive. This summer has been crazy - I've been taking classes at the University of Washington (trying to get competitive for grad school), and it's really been my focus this summer. I am still doing custom bead orders, but just haven't had the time to put anything up for auction. I do have a couple of pieces to put up, and I will try to get those posted as soon as possible. Next week is finals the UW, so wish me luck (it has been so much fun)!!!

Sunday 8:35 am 4-4-10
Happy Easter! Steve and I have been out of town (went to Spokane for a few days), so I sort of forgot to put up a picture of my new auction. Whoops! Anyway, I really like this one - there are lots of layers in this one and the colors turned out perfect (what I was shooting for). I hope you like it! I have to run - I have way too much laundry to do and spring break ends today - back to work tomorrow! Hope you've all had a great weekend, and here's the new bead (auction ending Wednesday):

Tuesday 7:15 pm 3-30-10
I have a new petal auction all scheduled to start this Friday. It's a lovely color combination, and is super-saturated with color. Come back to see it (and bid on it if so inclined) this Friday!
On a totally random note, my brother came over the other night and we watched "The World's Fastest Indian" with Anthony Hopkins. If you haven't seen it, you should - it was fantastic! It takes place in Invercargill, New Zealand, and ironically, just a couple of weeks ago I sent some beads to that very town. Small world!
Anyway, have a great week (hope it's warmer where you're at than it is here in the Seattle area), and come back this Friday to see the new little treasure!

Sunday 6:30 pm 2-28-10
The two new auctions are up and running. I was so happy with how these two little guys turned out - I hope they do well! I hate to post and run, but I haven't even started dinner yet, and Steve's getting hungry! Hope you all had a great weekend, and here are the beads (if you click on them, it will take you directly to their respective auctions):

Today's been a fun-filled day so far. Steve and I have the USA vs. Canada hockey match going while we're trying to photograph the two beads that start on ebay tonight. I took pictures yesterday and thought they would be "okay", but these two beads are beautiful, and "okay" photography isn't cutting it. So, Steve's been helping me. He has a new Nikon and has been taking classes - getting really good at portraits in particular. But today, it's all about the beads. So we've been doing a lot of experimenting, hoping to have some pictures that are much more worthy of these two glass treasures. I hope we succeed. So I'm just getting ready to see what we've got from this morning and change the pics on the auctions (which are scheduled to start tonight).
Please come back later tonight to check out the beads! :)

Saturday 4:30 pm 2-27-10
Hi there! Well, I just finished a day at the torch. I had some custom orders that I needed to finish, and made a couple of beads for auction this coming week. They're a tad different, but I think they're going to be pretty darned cool. You never know until they're out of the kiln, but I was pretty happy with them as I was working with them. Stay tuned to see..... :)

Just a quick pop-in to say that the auctions are up and running - Have a great night! Here they are:

Thursday 4:00 pm 2-11-10
Wow, I can't believe it's been almost two months since I've checked in here - I'm so sorry that I've been MIA for a while. Things have been pretty busy. Well, we had the holidays of course, but the big news is that a couple of weeks ago, Steve had surgery on his clavicle to repair it after he had a bad bike accident this past June. Anyway, he survived the surgery just fine, but... He woke up too early. He was all sewed up and the actual surgery was finished, but they weren't ready for him to wake up. He sat straight up in bed, ripped out his breathing tube, started ripping out his IVs, and started fighting with the surgery staff. It took five nurses/people to hold him down and get him back to sleep. He doesn't remember it at all (thank goodness), but it is quite the story. Anyway, now we're focused on getting him better. Not being able to bike has been hard for him - he's not they type to just sit around and do nothing.
So, beads.... I do have three new auctions starting tonight, and hope they do well. It's been so long since I've had anything up for sale there. Hope I haven't been forgotten.
Also, some news: I'm working on a tutorial of sorts. Steve will be helping me with it (now that he has some free time on his hands), and I'll be sure to post the news here when it's ready for purchase.
Thanks so much for checking in here, and hope to hear from you soon!

Thursday 7:30 pm 12-17-09
The Rainbow beads are officially ready to go to a new home! The bead at Etsy is a smaller size (about 14 x 14mm), and is up for grabs for $70. The bead at Ebay is much larger (one of the largest rainbow petals that I've made at about 21 x 21mm) and the starting bid is $55. I thought it would be a fun experiment to see how the two would sell at the different sites. I have to admit - I had a hard time pricing these two beads. I didn't want to set the prices too high, but at the same time, they take a very long time to make, and are tricky to get them "just right". Anyway, it'll be fun to see how they do!
Here they are (Etsy bead on the left, larger Ebay bead on the right):

Monday 8:15 pm 12-14-09
I have been a very busy bee lately! I'm working like a madman on custom orders that people need for the holidays, and have some beads that I've been meaning to list on etsy and ebay. I think I might do something a little "experimental". I have a couple of rainbow petal beads (one huge and one on the smaller size), and I might just list one on ebay and the other on etsy (respectively) and just see what happens. I also have a couple of really small sets (really small = really affordable) that I'd like to offer on etsy. I just need to get all of the photos ready, and it'll all be good! I love being busy too, so no complaining here! I'd say, give me till tomorrow to get them all going, and then they'll all be up for grabs!
So anyway, if you're up for checking out some new beads, please come back tomorrow to see them, there'll be lots to see - have a great night!

Sunday 2:00 pm 12-6-09
Hello strangers!!! I'm happy to be back here with some good news - I have beads that are sitting in the kiln, just waiting for a new home. They'll be up for grabs Tuesday, so come back to check them out!
If you're wondering where I've been, I've been working diligently on custom orders. I'm finally caught up which has allowed me to spend a few minutes here to say "hello". Steve's been well (still recovering from his bike accident back in June), and he's been busying himself with a new camera. I think he has a fantastic eye for photography, and he just broke down and bought a decent digital camera (Nikon d300S). There's going to be a lot of learning involved, but that's good for him. I think he needs to start selling some of his photos (especially to help pay for the new cam)! As long as I'm bragging about his photography, how about a sample of one of my favorites?
This picture was taken in Fairfield, Washington (east of Spokane). While it looks photoshopped (especially the freaky-sized moon), it is not. The colors are god-given, and the moon was showing off that night. Here it is:

I have something new to add to my "Objects" section: Bookmarks! Just in time for the holiday season! These will make perfect gifts too. I mean - who doesn't read, right? They'll be selling for $34, since it will include two "small" beads. I'll be taking custom orders for these, so just let me know what colors and bead designs that you'd like, and we're in business! Anyway, here's a pic of one (I LOVE these)!!!

Tuesday 6:35 pm 10-20-09
The new auctions are up and running! I decided to go with a "vintage-inspired" color combination that I'm crazy about. I love how the cool and warm tones compliment each other in an airy, ethereal way. These beads are just slightly larger than my normal. The round beads are about 12 x 13mm, and the lentils are the medium size (15 x 15mm). I decided to go a bit larger thanks in part to the trend I've noticed lately towards more "statement" jewelry. These beads aren't a whole lot larger than my usual, just a tad - but enough I think, to qualify for the push towards larger jewelry pieces (yum).
So anyway, here they are, and I'll be back here soon. I have a few more custom orders to fill, but hope to have some more auctions starting within the next few days. Thanks a bunch!

Sunday 4:30 pm 10-18-09
Hi all! Well, it's taken a while longer than I'd expected to get another auction ready. I was bombarded with custom orders (which is a very good thing, so thank you to all my great clients)! Anyway, I do have a couple of auctions finished and will be getting them ready to start Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm Pacific time. Thanks so much for stopping by, and hope you've had a great weekend!

Thursday 7:30 am 9-17-09
Hi everyone. It's been a very, very sad past couple of days. One of my good friends passed away from an evil form of cancer with which she had been fighting for about the past ten years. Beth was really special too. I know that everyone says that about loved ones who have passed, but it's so true. She was really something. One of the kindest women I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. I met her when I worked part-time at the Aveda store here in Bellevue back in 1996. Among a gaggle of women, she was always the voice of reason, and had a wicked sense of humor. Us Aveda girls have remained friends years after leaving there, and the four of us took lots of pleasure in shopping trips up to Vancouver, meeting for lunch, getting together with our spouses for dinner, etc. We will all really miss her, and man, was she a fighter. I could go on forever about Beth, but maybe I'll post a picture and say a prayer. Beth's on the far left, then Melinda, Linne, and me. All four of us in the picture are the "Aveda girls". This was taken this past November at Beth's house.
Thanks for stopping by. :)

Wednesday 6:30 pm 9-9-09
Just stopping in to say "hello" and let you know that the new auction has started. It's my take on a Halloween set, and here it is:

Tuesday 7:00 pm 9-8-09
Well, I'm back to work after a nice long summer vacation. Tomorrow is the first day back for students, so that means things are going to get crazy around here for awhile. I love having summers off, but I also really look forward to seeing my students. Since I travel throughout the district, I'm going to do my best to make it to as many schools as my car can take me to tomorrow.
As for beads, I do have a new "Halloweenie" set that will start tomorrow night. This year (unlike last year when I waited till the very end of October) I made sure my Halloween set is available with plenty of time before the holiday!
Anyway, I'm off like a herd of turtles, but will be back tomorrow evening with the new auction. Have a great night!

Monday 6:30 pm 8-31-09
Here are the new auctions (off to finish eating dinner)! :)
Caramel Junkie Caramel Junkie Petal Bead Caramel Junkie Focal Heart
Monday 5:15 pm 8-31-09
Yup, the auctions are scheduled and ready to go in about an hour and fiteen minutes. I was surprised I actually had time to finish the auction since Chewy was here. He is so much fun to puppy-sit.
Today was my last "official" day of summer vacation, and I have to get ready tonight for my first day back to work. Students don't come until next week (after Labor Day), so at least I have a chance to mentally prepare myself. :)
Anyway, I better run - I can hear the rice boiling! I'll be back soon with the new auctions!

Sunday 9:15 am 8-30-09
Hey there all - Happy Sunday! Well, it's a slow start back to ebay, but it's a good start! The auctions did well - better than I thought, since it had been so long since I'd had anything there. I'm still on a mission to offer sets and pieces there more regularly, and I have half of another set completed already. My plan is to finish it today and have it ready for tomorrow evening. I can tell you right now that I love the colors (there's one good thing about summer turning into fall - the warm, toasty colors). I'm going to try my bestest to have it ready. The only thing that would keep me from completeing it, is today I get to babysit Geoff (my step-son) and Terry's (Geoff's fiancée) puppy Chewy. He should be here any minute, and Steve and I will be watching him till tomorrow. If you scroll down a touch, you'll see a picture of Chewy and you'll fully understand how he could keep me away from torching. But... Steve and I have an agreement that he'll watch him while I finish the set, so please come back tomorrow to see the beads!!!

Monday 6:30 pm 8-24-09
Hey there! Just a quick pop-in to say that the other new auction is up and going. I have to run - dinner's finished and I need to pull it out of the oven (it's coconut chicken tonight)!
Plum Fantastic!
Sunday 6:30 pm 8-23-09
Finally , just when you were beginning do doubt that I'd ever come back to ebay, I have two auctions starting tonight with another starting tomorrow! Both set are very different from each other, but they are both geared for the upcoming seasons (I hate to admit that the summer season is coming to an end). At least there are dark, rich beads to look forward to! Anyway, here's the new set with the focal (sold seperately):
Autumn Savannah Autumn Savannah Heart

Saturday 10:30 am 8-22-09
Well, this summer has not gone as I'd planned. "The Plan" was to make beads at least three days a week, but as you can see... It just has not been able to happen. I've kept very busy with custom orders, but my commitment to ebay as not been what I'd hoped. What can I say? There are two weeks left of vacation before I head back to work (with the school district), so I'm going to see what I can get done in those two weeks. I'll be at the torch today working on my first fall auction, and hope to get a new tutorial finished as well. The tutorial will be a very beginning, basics class, and I hope to have a casing tutorial finished as well.
Last week Steve and I were able to go to our family reunion (my mom's side) in Estes Park, Colorado. I had never been there, but boy... talk about a fun reunion in a gorgeous part of the USA! Steve and I loved it there - we'd love to go back someday. While we were there, we toured the Stanley Hotel. It's where Stepen King (one of my favorite authors) stayed when he was inspired to write The Shining (one of my favorite books). The history of that hotel is really something. Anyway, my cousin Donna took a pic of Steve and I in the back courtyard just after the tour:
I Also have to mention the new addition to our family! Steve's son Geoff and his fiancée got the cutest little puppy I think I've ever seen in my life. He's a Yorkie-Poo (Yorkshire Terrier/Poodle blend), and we've been lucky enough to "baby-sit" him a couple of days a week. His name's Chewy (yup - Geoff's a Star Wars fan), and he's about two pounds of nothin' but love. I'm absolutely compelled to post a picture:
Is that the cutest face you've ever seen or what? Anyway, about beads... Please come back to see my first fall set - I'll have it ready for ebay by either Sunday or Monday evening. Thanks for sticking with me in my absence!!!!

Wednesday 10:00 pm 7-1-09
Well... While things are slowly getting back to "normal" (or at least a "new normal") around here (see my post below if you're confused), I did finally get around to listing a bracelet on Etsy! It's my first actual product listing on Etsy. I do have my Rainbow Petal Bead Tutorial there for sale, but this is my first physical "item" for sale. It's a gorgeous bracelet, and I don't feel at all guilty for saying that because Vicki Walker is the one who took my beads and really made them shine. I am a huge fan of Vicki's - everything she creates is a work of art in my book. In the future on Etsy, I plan to sell some beads, but probably won't be selling a lot of finished jewelry. So if you love the bracelet, I'd grab it while it's there. If you click on the picture below, it'll take you directly to the bracelet on Etsy:
As for more beads (auctions) - They are on the way! I have a few custom orders I'm working on, but will be doing my best to fit in some beads for ebay soon! Thanks a bunch!

Thursday 3:15 pm 6-18-09
Holy cow - it's been almost two months since I've checked in here. That is waaaay too long. An unfortunate record. What can I say except that yes, I am still making lots of glass beads (obviously custom orders), and yes, my life outside of the glass world has been extremely busy. The past three weeks have been absolutely unbelievable (and not in a good way). Steve ended up in the ER which turned out to be a kidney stone. That was the first time I've ever seen someone deal with a kidney stone, and let me tell you for those who have not had the pleasure - it ain't pretty. I thought for sure at one point Steve's head was going to completely spin around. After a few days of hell on earth, he was fine (thank goodness). Anyway, one short week later, Steve was in an awful bicycle accident (collided with another cyclist due to a lack of clear judgement on the other cyclist's part), and ended up bloodied, bruised, and a broken left collarbone. And I'm not talking when you look at the x-ray you say, "Oh yeah, I see it - that crack along that bone there." Uh-uh. His left collarbone is now his left four collarbones - four completely seperate pieces. Poor guy - it has not been his best spring. He's recouperating (and in some nasty pain), but it's a whole lifestyle change for him. He was used to riding between 100-200 miles a week on his bike. Now... goose egg. So as you can see between our household becoming a temporary physical rehabliltation center and my custom orders, it's just been hard to get here. Oh! If you're interested in reading about Steve's bike accident, click here or on his x-ray below.
As far as glass goes, I will start having auctions more regularly again starting in July. School's almost out, which will free me up for more torch time! Also, I have a very cool bracelet that Vicki Walker and I made together (I did the beads, she did the wirework) which I will have for sale on Etsy soon. I should have it up within the next day or two. It was made with that goregous fuchsia color that I picked up a while ago (and that I'm holding onto like it's plutonium). Anyway, check back soon - I'll have a picture of it here when I list it.
For those who were wondering about our robins, they made it out of the nest safely. It was so exciting to watch. Steve was finally able to rig up a webcam while their mom was away, so we watched their every move till they took their first flight. That was really special.
Well, I better run - I have to check my beads that are sitting in the kiln. I have an order that needs to go out to Australia asap, and I'm hoping they're ready to clean! Please check back soon - I promise I'll be back shortly! :)

Tuesday 9:00 pm 4-21-09
I guess it's that time of year - I'm getting obsessive about my yard/garden. I love it this time of year. Everything looks so beautiful, and it makes me feel so "homey". But hey, I guess I'm not the only one. Steve and I noticed a robin building a nest right above out back door last week, but we scared it off when we tried to install a webcam (while it was away from the nest) to watch its every move. Well, that was a bad idea on our part - we really spooked it. Anyway, I took Max out this morning and as I was heading in, there it was, sitting in its nest! It's so cute, and I have to wonder if there are eggs in there. I don't dare look though - we'll find out soon enough. I just hope we don't scare it again - we use that door (and so does our corgi Max) a lot. So I guess we'll have to wait and see. Steve took this picture of it today with his zoom lens, of course. We know we'll need to keep our distance this time. :)
As for beads, I have an auction ending tomorrow, and hope to have more up on ebay soon. I'm getting lots of custom orders, so I'll try to squeeze one in there. :)
Anyway, here's our beautiful little squatter:

Friday 6:40 pm 4-17-09
Rats! Once again - I miffed on the start time for the new auction, so it will start in just a couple of minutes - at 6:45!
I'm so glad it's Friday. It's been a long week, and I haven't felt my bst the past couple of days. It will be nice to have the weekend to relax and get myself back together. And as a bonus, it looks like we're going to be blessed with beautiful weather! So now the big question is... Enjoy the weather or spend time atthe torch??? Hmmm... I honestly don't know what I'll do. I'll have to make that decision tomorrow (a difficult decision, but one I'm so happy to "have" to make - finally after months of cold)! :)
Here's the new auction that just started (below). Have a great Friday night, and I'll be back soon with more beads!

Wednesday 6:30 pm 4-15-09
Hi there! Steve and I just had my folks over for ham dinner (I was supposed to fix it for Easter, but we had so much food, I actually forgot to put it in the oven)... So, I'm just popping in to say that the two new auctions are up and running (with two ending tomorrow as well). Hope you like them, and here they are:

Monday 7:00 am 4-13-09
Hey there! I just wanted to stop by here really quick to say "hello" and hope those who celebrate, had a lovely Easter yesterday. My folks came over, and we had a really nice time. I made a French pastry dessert that I still have sugar rush from!
Anyway, I'm off to work, but will be back soon with a couple more auctions (petals, next time)! :)
Oh! And also... I think I'm going to be offering smaller sets for a while on ebay. I think during this time when we're all watching where we spend our money, I'd like to offer smaller sets so that they're more affordable for everyone.
So here's the new auction below and have a great Monday...
Sherbet Cirque Sherbet

Thursday 6:30 am 4-9-09
Wow, it's been over a month since I've checked in here. Things have been very busy, and I guess something had to give - the website. At least it's not - the beads. :) I have been working on beads, just aven't had much time for auctions. But that's about to change! I'll be posting a couple of auctions in the next couple days, so please come back to see them. :) Also, I'm working on a new tutorial, so that will hopefully be finished soon as well (I'm going to need a couple of weeks though, to finish it). I'll be back with more details soon!
Thanks for checking in with me - even though I've been missing in action the past several weeks. I'll be back here soon with some new auctions!

Saturday 6:30 pm 2-28-09
I just got back from my folks' house, but before I left this afternoon, I had time to get another auction ready - and it's a petal bead! Done in spring-ish, yummy colors, similar to that of the new "Sugar High" set - I love it... I have to run, but here are the two new auctions - boy, I can't wait for spring!!!
Sugar High Pastel Petal Bead

Tuesday 6:30 pm 2-24-09
Hello! Well, as promised, a new auction has just started - a nice set of sparkly, glassy beads in seasonless neutrals. I love 'em! Hope you do too. Here they are...

Monday 1:30 pm 2-23-09
Well, Steve and I just got back from several days down in Long Beach, Washington. We had a great time (I think we may have decided that we will eventually end up living there). But, I'm actually a little under the weather. So I just wanted to come here, say a quick "hello" and let you know that I will have a new auction starting tomorrow.
Oh! One more thing... I have a new addition to my jewelry page. Vicki Walker and I have been teaming up over the years to make some custom pieces for a variety of clients, and I thought it would be a good idea to advertise that we do that on my jewelry page. I'll post a couple of pics below of some finished pieces - I absolutely love what Vicki can do with sterling!!!

Hi all! Just a quick "hello" to let you know the new auction is up and running! Speaking of running, I have a bunch of dishes I need to get to, so I'll pop in again later. Here's the new auction:

Saturday 2:30 pm 2-14-09
Happy Valentine's Day! I have to run to the store (last-minute Valentine's dinner "stuff", but I wanted to stop in here to let you all know that I do have an auction starting Monday. It's almost ready to go - I just have to list it, so it'll be there on Presidents' Day. Thanks a bunch - hope you have a great weekend and a great Valentine's Day!
Orbital Rendezvous

Wednesday 7:30 pm 2-11-09
Whoops! I have a "new" auction that's been going for a few days now, and forgot to put a picture of it here. My mind's been a little pre-occupied lately. :) Anyway, I was dying to do something new and different, so I came up with the beads below. They're very modern - very "glassy" if that makes sense. They're all encased in clear, so they almost have a "liquidy" appearance to them. Anyway, hope you like them, and I hope to be back within the next few days with a new set!!!
Orbital Rendezvous

Wednesday 6:40 pm 2-4-09
Just a quick "hello" to say all of my auctions are up and running - including a Rainbow Petal Bead! I'm off to finish up dinner, but will be back soon. Thanks so much for stopping by! Here are some pics of the new auctions...
Rainbow Rings - So Cool... Rainbow Rings - So Warm Rainbow Petal Bead

Tuesday 6:35 pm 2-3-09
The new auctions have started, and as you might be able to tell, there's a bit of a theme... Rainbows! So like it says above, three more auctions will be starting the same time tomorrow evening with more rainbow-inspired designs. And who knows, maybe a Rainbow Petal Bead will show up for the party! :) Thanks for checking in - hope you like the new auctions, and hope you'll come back tomorrow to see the rest of the "Rainbow" auction series! Here are the two new auctions that just started...
Rainbow Fever

Saturday 11:30 am 1-31-09
Hello strangers! It's been a month since I've checked in here, and a lot has been happening. After the new year, I got really busy with custom orders, which really effected my presence at ebay. Ebay's also been so slow for everyone, I haven't been pressuring myself to get anything out there. But enough time has passed so that I'm itching to get back on there. I've also joined Etsy, where currently I just have my tutorial for sale. I may list something there too, we'll see. Anyway, today is all about torch time - and it will all be for sale starting Monday and Tuesday either on ebay or etsy (I'll keep you posted).
On a personal note, last Friday I had a birthday - a big one... I turned 40! Hard to believe, but I'm officially "over the hill". Funny thing though, I sure don't feel over the hill. I feel better than I did in my 20s and 30s! It was my best birthday ever... I went for a run, and when I got back Steve had decorated the house for a surprise party later that evening, and had a dozen roses (of the most gorgeous color of lilac) waiting for me. That night, a few of my oldest and dearest friends came over to help me celebrate (maybe I'll add a few pics). I have to admit, I hadn't been looking forward to turning 40, but Steve made it really, very special.
Mindy, Me, Liza Dinner
Mindy and Liza (on each side of me) have ben my friends for about 34 years - we went through elementary school together, all the way through college! My mom and dad put together this huge feast of Chinese food. I was in heaven!!!!

In my living room, chatting, having a great time. Here's a pic of Steve and I by the roses he gave me for my 40th - such a great man.

Tuesday 6:30 pm 12-30-08
Good evening! The new auction has started - it'll be my first "large" set of the new year, and it's one of my very favorite color combinations. I had a ton of fun making these, and I hope it shows.
This next year should be a good one! I turn the big 4-0 next month, I have a new publication coming out in the spring/summer, a couple 5 and 12Ks to run and a possible family reunion in July. Not a bad plan so far! Anyway, I hope you like the new beads, and hope you have fun bringing the new year!
Going For Baroque - '09

Sunday 9:35 pm 12-28-08
I hope you all have had a nice holiday so far. It's been an awfully strange one here in the Seattle area. For almost two weeks we were plagued by snow! At any one time there was about 12" of snow on the ground (which is paralyzing for a region not well-equipped for it). We are still waiting for some of our Christmas gifts to be delivered (from Amazon, 2-day shipping that was purchased a week and a half ago). Garbage hasn't been collected in two weeks - it's been crazy! But, in just the past two days the snow has virtually melted, thank goodness. Things can finally get back to normal. Speaking of getting back to normal, I have a new set of beads (a larger set) that will start Tuesday night, so please come back to see it! :)
Anyway, I have to head out - finish cleaning up some beads for a custom order, but I'll be back soon with some fresh, new beads ready for ebay! Have a great night.

Friday 11:20 am 12-19-08
Yup - I've got two auctions ending tonight and two more ending tomorrow. Ebay's been so s-l-o-w for everybody, and there are only a couple of bids right now on my beads, so if you're looking for a good deal... Today and tomorrow's the time to get one (it looks like)!
Other news: We are stupid with snow - about six inches!!! I'm on my third snow day from the school district. This is the heaviest snow we've had in at least 18 years. And the thing is (while we don't get a lot of snow here very often), when we do get it, it usually melts within the day or so. But the temps have been so cold - it's just not budging. So I'll leave you with a pic from our front yard winter wonderland (I tried to let Max out in the back to play in it, but I guess he doesn't like his paws to get cold - diva)...
Monday, 10:00 pm 4-17-06
I know, I know, it's been two weeks since I've done any updates here, but I was out of town enjoying my spring vacation, and am just getting myself back in order. Steve and I went to Spokane to visit family and then went on to Missoula to visit Lauren the last time before she graduates (from college) next month. Talk about exciting!!!
I'm going to make this short (it's getting late, and I need to get up early), so I just wanted to pop in and let you all know that I'll be working on an auction and hope to have it up for grabs in the next few days. Please check back!

Sean's Victory
This past Friday my faith in humanity was restored. One of my students, Sean George (who I've known for eleven years) was voted by his high school to be ASB Vice-President. He's just the kindest human being you could ever meet, but what makes him especially unique is that he has cerebral palsy so severe that he uses a communication device to speak (which is what I work with him on), and a power wheelchair to get around school. I knew that he wanted to run, but I'm aware of how stiff the competition can be in high school for those spots. The kids in the regular education classes are quite familiar with Sean, but few have had the opportunity to get to know him in depth. He does attend several regular ed classes (with help from a one-on-one instructional assistant), so I was hoping that might be enough for him to be taken seriously as a candidate. Anyway, he did run - and it must have been a tight race because there were some other serious contenders. The big election was last week, and the announcements of next year's officers were made at the pep rally on Friday. His assistant took a video clip with his digital camera of the moment the winner of his office was announced. If you'd like to see it, click on the link below. I was seriously choking back the tears (as were many others) - I'm so proud of him. He's going to be a great VP. :)
This is the first time I've ever had video on here - hope it works...

Here's what we've all been waiting for... "Glass Art Calendar 2007"!!!
Jeanette Ryan of Blix Designs had a great idea to publish a lampwork art clandar, and yours truly was lucky enough to be included! That's right - I'm Miss February. :) The calendar looks gorgeous, and it's a "must-have" for bead enthusiasts. I have to say, I am very honored and humbled to be included with the other artists who are featured in the calendar. It really did turn out to be fabulous, and it's pretty exciting because it is the first of its kind. I haven't ever seen another calendar of this quality featuring lampwork art.
You can click on the picture below for more information on the calendar and to purchase one (you can buy them through me if you like). Yahoo!

So much drama in the lampwork world... Apparently some shyster in Russia is using my bead images (along with a few other of my personal favorite artists) to try and pass them off as her own. Thank you to everyone who has e-mailed me to let me know about it. Boy, word travels fast in our community, doesn't it? Now, I have to wonder what happens to the poor souls who have the misfortune of trying to buy any of "her" beads. Do they actually receive beads or is their money simply stolen? If it was just stolen, I have to wonder why this gal (or guy - who knows on the internet, right?) would have taken the time to find certain artists to steal their images. Anyway, it sucks big time - mostly for those who are being duped. I swear... Greed will make people do the craziest things.
On a much happier note, I have some really exciting news to share with you, but I'm part of a voluntary gag-order until the 31st. :) So make sure you come back in just a couple of days, on April 1st to see something very, very cool. I promise - it isn't any kind of April Fool's Day joke (I hate those)!

Monday, 6:30 pm 3-27-06
Finally a new auction! I called it "Eden" because the vivid greens, blues and purples remind me of a lush, floral-filled garden. It's just a very peaceful-looking set of beads. Hope you like 'em. :)
Coming up this weekend is Steve's and my 11-year anniversary of when we met. We actually met (for those of you who know the story, you'll want to just skip ahead to the pic of the new auction) when we were both studying karate. I trained at a different dojo, but the style of karate was the same, and his group and my group often did things together. Anyway, my group was going up to Canada for a special training, and he decided to come along. The rest is history! We always celebrate the day we met because, well one, it's special. But two, it's on April Fool's Day. I mean, c'mon!!! How appropriate. :) Anyway, we don't have plans, but I'm sure we'll do something.
Here's the new set...
Have a great evening, and I'll check back soon!

Saturday, 12:00 pm 3-11-06
No time to chat now - I'm getting dinner started late!!!
But, I thought I'd post a pic of the new auction. Here it is!

All That Glitters...

Wednesday, 6:30 pm 3-1-06
The new auction's up and running, and I hope it does well. Ever since I did this combo last year, I've had tons of requests to make one again, but I wanted to wait till the time was right, and it seems like now that spring is around the corner, that right time is now. All of the beads are different than last year's set with the exeption of the ivory bead with the turquoise stripes. That bead seemed to be the favorite of the bunch, so I kept it as is. Of course, the heart is very unique to any set I've done. It's only the second time I've done the "boro-style" heart, and the first time I've done it with the metallic dots along the sides. Anyway, just looking at the beads and the colors has me yearning for spring and summer! I wouldn't imagine that you'd all remember, but I bought a pair of sandals last year and had to make some beads to go along with them. Beads inspired by shoes, who would've thought? So, I'm just dying to be able to break out those sandals! Maybe I'll post a pic of them so can see what I'm talking about. :)
Well, I better get a move on - dinner's waiting, and it's so cold out here that my fingers are having a hard time typing! And I'm talking about sandals????
Here's the new auction...
Going for Baroque

Friday, 6:30 pm 2-24-06
The new auction's up and running (and don't you dare forget about the other ending Sunday)! :) I made just one knob today that I may or may not put up for auction. It's in the kiln right now, and I'll decide after I see how it looks when it comes out. It's totally different than anything I've ever done, so we'll see...
I was planning to make a ton of beads today, but at about 1:00 in the afternoon, Steve decided to put "The Birds" in the DVD player. We just bought an Alfred Hitchcock DVD set - it has fourteen of his most popluar movies. Lauren's in town for her friend's wedding, so Steve made some of his homemade old-fashioned popcorn, and the three of us sat around in the middle of the day and watched it. It was a kick! We should do that more often (ahhhhh - if only I was on vacation every day).
So, I'll bet we watch another Hitchcock tonight, but if not, we also got season five of "The Andy Griffth Show". I'm a total Andy Griffith and Don Knotts fanatic, so either way, it should be a fun evening.
Whoops! Gotta go - the oven just went off. Hope you like the new auction - here it is....

Me and My Bright Ideas

Tuesday, 6:30 pm 2-21-06

The new auction's up and running! I got a lot done today - actually had time to make another auction, which I'll probably start Thursday. But for now, I hope this set will do... :)
The New Take on Spring

I also wanted to post a couple of pics of jewelry that Erika Johnson made with my Braille Beads. It's a great example of how wonderful they can look in jewelry - I just love what she did with them!!!
So... Click here for more info on my "Braille Beads" and here to see more of Erika's work at her website.

Sunday, 12:30 pm 2-19-06
Yahoo! I'm on mid-winter vacation!!! That means I have all next week to make beads, get myself organized, and enjoy spending time away from work. I'm hoping to spend lots of time at the torch, but we'll see. It always seems like something comes up lately, but I really want to make this week about glass.
The weather here's been so weird - so cold all of a sudden. That's one reason I didn't want to torch yesterday - it was freezing. Last week was so nice - in the upper 50's. I planted my primroses, did my containers and now... They're frozen. I brought them in, but I don't know if they're going to be able to be saved. Big bummer! So anyway, I'm heading to the torch right now, and will be especially bundled up. Even though I'm inside, it gets so cold because of the ventilation. Brrrrrrrr!!!!!!
Anyway, check back soon for an auction - I'm thinking Tuesday or Wednesday. :) Have a great day!

Friday, 6:30 pm 2-10-06
What a weird day - it's been great and horrible at the same time. Horrible because I need to have root canal done "again". I couldn't have been more irresponsible - I had a root canal (actually two) about a year ago and never had the permanent fillings put in. Well, now one of them (the very back molar) is totally infected. I honestly can't remember when I've been in this much pain. I think I can safely say that even my migraines don't hurt this bad. I'm all doped up on vicodin, which is barely helping, so I'm fairly useless. It really feels like someone has taken one of those dental tools and is jamming it up through my tooth into the bone. Ugh - It's awful.
But then, it's been a great day because the sun was shining, and I mean it really felt like spring. I actually got my butt out in the yard (yes, even on the medicine) and planted some new stuff. It was wonderful. Even though my mouth was killing me, it was wonderful. I'm hoping tomorrow's as nice, but we'll see - you never know around here. :)
So I promised I'd have two auctions tonight, and here they are (I love, love, love the colors)...
The Art of Cool The Art of Cool

Saturday, 7:15 pm 1-28-06
It's been a few days since I've updated, but Steve's putting a new computer together for me, and for a while this one was dismantled. He's been struggling a bit to get mine together (swearing like a sailor), but anyway, my old one's back together for now and I finally have a chance to say hello!
I've been working hard at the torch, so tomorrow I'll have another auction starting. It's my first "spring" set of the year. It's bright, fun, and jsut early enough so that you have plenty of time to make something wonderful to wear (or sell) when the sun actually decides to shine. :)
Oh yeah - I was going to post a couple of pics from my birthday! Well the ones of me turned out totally nerdy (big surprise), but the pictures of the flowers that were given are perfectly photogenic. Here they are (if only they would last forever)...

These gorgeous roses were from Steve... And these beauties were from my bro Jay, his wife Maraika, and daughter Emily.
From Steve From Jay, Maraika, and Emily
Thanks again for all of the nice birthday greetings - it was a very special time. I'll check back in tomorrow (and don't forget about that new auction)!!!

Tuesday, 10:55 pm 1-24-06
I need to give a very heartfelt "thank you" to everyone who wrote and wished me a happy birthday yesterday. I was totally overwhelmed with the kind e-mails, so thank you very much - I really do appreciate it.
I had a fantastic day - the weather was nice, Steve and I spent the afternoon and evening together, and later went out to dinner with my folks. Steve greeted me at the door with a dozen gorgeous yellow roses which was quite sweet. He did take the requisite pictures of me standing by the flowers, but I haven't seen them yet to see if they've turned out. If any did, I might post one tomorrow. The roses are spectacular. My brother annd his fam (who are now safely back in Melbourne) also sent me flowers - tulips! It's a wonderful vase of the prettiest, springiest tulips I've ever seen. I didn't even realize you could get tulips this time of year! I was spoiled rotten.
So on the bead front... My new auction's up and going, so I finally feel like I'm back in my "zone". I have quite a few custom orders that need to be filled, but I'm hoping to squeeze another auction in there soon. Anyway, here's the new auction, and have a great day tomorrow!
Every Day is Valentine's

Saturday, 6:30 pm 1-21-06
6:30 pm Update: Okay!!! One nasty burn, a little blood, and four hours later, I actually completed a set! It'll be up for auction Monday at 6:30. I didn't realize how much of a "dance" it is working with glass. There's a palpable rhythm that I need to make beads that I'm happy with, and I thought I had lost it. It took some time (along with a couple of the minor injuires I mentioned), but I got it back. It didn't help that I chose a hard color to work with (what was I thinking?). Anyway, that's all for now - below is what I had posted earlier in the day...
I'm a-l-i-v-e!!!! Yup, I'm still here, and no, I haven't stopped lampworking (thank you, by the way, to all those who have e-mailed me). I just took a longer break than I had anticipated. Between the holidays, my brother and his family here, taking Lauren back to school in Montana (for her last semester - yahoo!), getting back into the swing of things at work, etc., I've just had a hard time getting back to the torch. I did try a couple of weeks ago, but it was disastrous. I'll be spending the day today at the torch, and will hopefully have an auction to show for it, but considering how things have gone lately, I'm hesitant to say that for sure I'll have one on a certain day. If all goes right, it'll start Monday (which happens to be my birthday). That would be a nice birthday gift - to get back in my "glass groove".
Tomorrow will be all about the Seahawks though! Send some good thoughts our way. If we win tomorrow, it'll be our very first trip to the Superbowl after being a franchise for over 30 years. We deserve it. :)
Anyway, I'm off to the torch, so speaking of sending good thoughts... Let's hope this time, it goes well - that I haven't totally lost my glass mojo. :) Talk to you soon!

Monday, 7:00 am 1-9-06
I'm really disappointed because the one day I had to make some beads for an auction, tanked. I just couldn't seem to do anything right. I made a bunch of cool latticinos to use with the set, but the beads just flopped. Granted, I was low on fuel, and that does happen - it changes everything. I'm also "out of practice" - a little out of the groove, but whatever the reason, the end result is that there are no beads yet. And I'm going to be booked for the next week. So... what I'm trying to say is that I still won't have beads for at least another week. On the positive side... you can bet that the first set I do is going to be a good one! I want to start the year with a bang, so please don't give up on me, just try to come back around the 18th. Thanks so much for your patience!

Wednesday, 9:45 pm 1-4-06
I know it's been ages since I've posted here (what, about two weeks?) but I knew that was going to happen. It's been fantastic spending time with my brother and his family. They're here for just another week, and then it'll be time to say good-bye. It's going to be awfully sad, and I'm not looking forward to it. On the bright side, we have had a lot of fun - had a great Christmas together, and I've been trying to spend as much time with them as possible.
Believe it or not, I actually came down with the flu the last half of my winter vacation, so it's been fairly low-key. Steve's trying to shake it now, poor guy.
I've been playing with my new digital camera - I can hardly believe how much better it is than that last "thing" I used for taking pictures. Soon, I promise, you'll see some beads taken with it!
Speaking of that, I think within the next week or two, I think I'm going to sell off one of my large lots - you know, like a "Winter Clearing" sort of deal. We'll see, but I'm leaning towards it.
Anyways, thanks for stickin' with me - I'm dying to get to the torch, but family comes first! :) I'll be back at it very soon, and yes, for those who have asked, it's just about time to start workin' those spring colors - Yay!

Thursday, 9:30 am 12-22-05
I was thinking that I'd find some time to do another auction this week, but my brother and his family are in town (from Melbourne), and we're having way too much fun. So the likelihood that I'll get to the torch till at least the first is pretty slim - sorry! Not to mention, Lauren just came in from Missoula yesterday (poor thing rode in a car for seven hours to get here), so we'll all be busy, busy, busy. I love this time of year, and this year's extraoridinarily special with everyone here, so I'm very, very grateful for that.
As far as news on the "bead front", I made some Braille Beads for a very nice woman in Australia, and she made a beautiful necklace with them for her friend who is blind. I received the nicest e-mail from each of them - that kind of feedback is so special, I really appreciate it. The woman who received the necklace was kind enough to say that I could use what she had written to me as a testimonial for my Braille Beads, and I'll post it below. As an even further bonus, the gal who bought the beads from me said the newspaper down there in Australia (I'm not sure which one yet) will be doing a story on the beads and the necklace that she made with the beads - very cool!
Here is what the recipient of the necklace had written to me...
"Hi Amy Just a quick email to say thanks so much for your great concept of the braille beads. I understand that you have met J.W. by email. She and a group of friends of mine presented me with the beads yesterday, and they are very special indeed! I really like the fact that the braille is really readable. You're probably aware that sometimes, when braille is included on products etc, it can often be bigger or smaller than normal. Your beads are the best example I have come across of the braille being easily readable and accurate, but where the visual aesthetic is also lovely. It seems to often go one way or the other, if you know what I mean. Either the braille looks good or can't be read, or is great for the braille reader but not visually very appealing. You seem to have hit the jackpot! J. has also set the beads in a lovely necklace. She has used beads to pick up the colours etc of your beads, and has chosen beads with interesting shapes which are lovely to feel as well. The whole necklace is great to feel as well as to look at. Anyway, thanks for a great concept which gives people who are blind or vision impaired a whole new appreciation of jewellery and raises the profile of braille at the same time! Best wishes for Christmas and the new year Regards C.M., New South Wales, Australia"
That's just about the nicest e-mail I've ever received - thank you very much. It really means a lot to me.
Another piece of news... For Christmas I was debating between a new torch and a new digital camera. Well, the camera won. We needed a new camera (the old one was a 2.5 mega-pixel piece of junk that was held together with duct tape). So, we ended up with the Nikon D-50. It's a whole lotta camera, and is going to take some getting used to, but we've been taking some pictures with it, and here's a special one (to me) of my niece Emily (the little Aussie), me , and Max when we were over at my folks' the other night. She is such a little doll...
I'm not sure when I'll be checking in here again, so if I don't for a few days, I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!!!

Thursday, 4:30 pm 12-15-05
I know it's been about a week since I've checked in here, but 'tis the season, right? :) I have just one more day of work, and then it's freedom till January 3rd! Yahoo! But the best thing of all is that tomorrow afternoon, my brother Jay and his fam will be arriving from Australia!!! I can't wait! Last time we saw each other was at Steve's and my wedding 3 1/2 years ago. Should make for a very, very special Christmas.
To be honest, I have no plans to make any beads for auctions, but figure I'll probably go into withdrawl after a certain point and need to make some, so I'd check back in a week or so if you like.
Anyway, I'm outta here for now, but will check in soon - hopefully with pics of Jay and his posse. :)

Saturday, 6:30 pm 12-3-05
The auctions are up! Here they are...
Shantung Hollow Heart - Bead-in-a-Bead!
So it looks like I'm going to miss Peg's get-together today, and I'm really bummed. I just have way too much to do - between beads and housework, I'm overloaded. Her parties are always so much fun. As a matter of fact, if you'd like to see pictures from some of her past parties, here are some links to some pages I had set up in the past...
I absolutely love ebay - it gives me an opportunity to meet some of the most interesting people. Just recently I had an auction called "Connecticut Christmas", and the woman who bought the beads turned out to be an artist herself. She and her husband aren't bead artists, but they create the most amazing dolls I've ever seen. Their names are Lynne and Michael Roche, and are from the UK - They've been published, and have a website where you can browse through their gorgeous handmade dolls. Here's a pic that she sent me - it's the pic that gave me whole new appreciation for their incredible art. If you click on the pic, it'll take you to their website, or you can click here:
Lynne and Michael Roche Dolls

Well, I better get a move on - too much to do today! Please come back to see the new auctions tonight - both are unlike any other sets/focals I've ever made. The focal is one that I've had in my head for a while, but I didn't think I could pull it off... but I did, and I love it!!!

Thursday, 7:00 am 12-1-05
Sorry to say - I'm all booked for custom orders for Christmas. I'll also be taking a break from custom orders during the holidays, but if you'd like a place in line for when I start up again, feel free to e-mail me with your order. I'll start working on the custom work again after the first of the year, so please keep in mind that any orders placed won't be finished till mid-late January - Thanks!
I've been so swamped trying to get the Christmas orders finished that I haven't worked much on a new auction. I do plan to do that tonight, so I'm hoping to have something lovely on ebay tomorrow or Saturday (but I'm shootin' for tomorrow).
Peg's having another one of her get-togethers this Saturday, and I'm dyin' to go, but am not sure if I can take the time away from the torch. Plus, I still have things to get ready for the holidays. I haven't put up my tree yet, and there's lots of yard work to do. We'll see though. I just love Peg's parties, and would hate to miss one.

Sunday, 8:30 pm 11-27-05
I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving - I know we did. Steve and I just got back this morning at 2:30 (yup, that's 2:30 in the morning) from Spokane. We actually went to Spokane, drove to Missoula, got Lauren, drove back to Spokane for Thanksgiving, then drove Lauren back to Missoula, then back to Spokane, and then home. Lots of driving - about 23 hours of driving all together. But it was worth it! Steve's mom had a fantastic turkey and ham dinner for 13 of us. It was the first time in I'm-not-sure-how-many years that I didn't have dinner here, but it was so relaxing. Steve's mom's just the best.
The new "Bead Unique" magazine is out with our article ("Generations of Creativity", pg. 28, 29, and 98). I'm really happy with how it turned out. We had a lot of fun doing it (even though Geoff has taken some hassling from his friends for being in a bead magazine). The only thing is that on the front part of the article they called Geoff my "son", and me, his "mom". Well, he's very much my step-son, not my son. I love Geoff as part of my family, but he has a very nice mom and I'm not it. :) I actually did ask the editor to be sure and list him as my step-son, but it didn't happen. I guess that's just the way the ball bounces. Anyway, Geoff and my mom did a great job on the article, so make sure you go pick up a copy - it's out now!
I'm still getting over that weird and nasty virus I caught a couple of weeks ago. It's crazy - I just can't shake it. So, I'm going to do my best this week to finish up some custom orders and get a new auction out. Look Thursday or Friday for something on ebay, but it will depend on how I'm feeling. Thanks a bunch and I'll check in soon!

Monday, 2:00 am 11-21-05
Well, it's 2:00 am, and I'm going to be getting up for work in about four hours. I've been fighting a nasty virus that left me with no voice for about five days and all sorts of other lovely symptoms. Most of the symptoms are gone - I actually felt pretty good today (yesterday now, I guess), but as soon as evening comes around, I start coughing. And I cough, and I cough, and I cough. I'm driving everyone nuts (not to mention myself), so here I am. I can't even breathe without feeling like I'm going to cough. I went to the doc on Saturday and they gave me something for the cough, so hopefully it's going to kick in soon so I can get some rest.
It looks like "Mickey Blue Eyes" is on TBS, so maybe I'll watch that for a bit.
Anyway, don't forget - I have my three auctions ending tomorrow, and get those Christmas orders in if soon you want them by the 25th - Good night! :)

Sunday, 10:45 am 11-20-05
Happy Sunday! Today's going to be a busy one, so I thought I'd get in here for a quick hello right away. We're going to be celebrating Geoff's birthday (Steve's son) today! Geoff's the one you'll see with me in the new "Bead Unique" magazine. He was a really good sport and took a Sunday evening a while back to make some jewelry with me and my mom for the article. I haven't seen the issue yet, but I'm sure there are pictures in there of him. Even though jewelry isn't "his thing" at all, he designed a necklace that was really cool - looked aboriginal or something. Anyway, pick up a copy of the mag and you can read about all of the fun we had.
I also wanted to be sure to mention that the three auctions that are going now (and are finishing tomorrow) will be the last for about a week or so. I'm swamped with custom Christmas orders, and my custom order clients deserve my full attention. Oh - that reminds me... If you're thinking about ordering something for Christmas, my deadline (in order to get it by the holidays) will be the 27th, next Sunday. You can order after that, but I just can't guarantee that it'll be finished in time.
So the kilns ramped up and ready to go, so that's my cue! I'm outta here for now. Have a great afternoon!

Wednesday, 6:15 pm 11-16-05
Just a really quick note here to say that my auctions are starting - at 6:15, 6:30, and 6:45.
I am still crazy-sick. I was up all night last night, and while I was typing an e-mail today, I literally almost fainted. Everything got really dizzy and dark. I ran to the bedroom, thinking, "I'm gonna pass out!" It was the strangest and scariest feeling. I've got my voice back, but I'm wondering if I have an ear infection now because everything's spinning.
Anyway, who wants to listen about that? Glass is much more fun. But for now, I have to say good-bye and head back to bed where I belong. Please go see what you think about my auctions, and I'll try to check in here tomorrow. Take care!

Tuesday, 11:15 am 11-15-05
"Why is Amy posting in the middle of the work day?" you ask? Well, I'm home sick! I have no voice (much to the delight of Steve), and having no voice and being a speech therapist just don't go well together. Not to mention I work with a lot of medically fragile kids, so it's better to stay home when I'm feeling crummy.
Anyway, I have three new auctions starting tomorrow, so be on the lookout! There'll be a set of beads as well as a couple of other little fun things. :)
Tomorrow HGTV is re-airing my episode on "Carfters Coast to Coast", so if you'd like to see me make total and complete dork of myself, you should tune in. You'll find it very entertaining (I swear, I'm not usually that... um... goofy). It really was a lot of fun to do though, and if you've ever wondered how I make those little perfume bottles, you'll be able to watch a quick little demo. My only caveat is that they never showed me putting the bottle in the kiln which is a must. Other than that, it's just good, mindless fun. :) It's on at 7:30 in the morning here on the west coast. I think it's actually the same just about everywhere, but you can click here to go to the HGTV website to find out the schedule near you.
It also looks like the new Bead Unique should be out soon. The new issue is showing on their website, and the article that Geoff (my step-son), my mom and I did is in the "features" section. It's called "Generations of Creativity". Here's a pic of the cover of the new issue - if you see it in the stores... Grab a copy!
Bead Unique
So make sure you come back to see the auctions tomorrow - with three of them going, something's got to be right up your alley! :)

Saturday, 2:30 pm 11-12-05
Yeah, I know it's been another week since I've updated here. Things just got way too crazy this past week. So much so, that I didn't even get to make an auction (obviously). I really wanted to get everyone's beads finished for Vicki's bracelets before I did anything for me. So... between having very little time after work this week and running out of oxygen and propane (that almost never happens at the same time), I just didn't have time for an auction. But, I'm almost completely caught up, and plan to be finished with all of the orders by Monday, so you can expect an auction Tuesday or Wednesday for sure!
I have a couple of fun things coming up!!! At the end of this month, the new Bead Unique magazine comes out, and my mom, my step-son Geoff, and I'll be in it! We did a project where I made some beads, and Fire Mountain Gems sent us a ton of findings. Then the three of us had to make our own piece of jewelry, etc. with the beads and supplies that were given to us. It was a riot! Both my mom and Geoff were totally new at this, so it was a lot of fun. Anyway, the article should be at least a couple of pages long, so pick a copy up at your local grocery store and check it out!
Also, Wednesday HGTV will be re-airing my episode on Crafters Coast to Coast. I think their time slot has changes since the last time it was shown. I think it's on in the mornings now. Anyway, it was a lot of fun to be a part of, and hopefully my segmant will be at least mildly entertaining. :)

Sunday, 6:30 pm 10-30-05
The new auction's up and running! It's a different take on the "Christmas" color scheme, which I really like. None of the bright red and green - just lots of gorgeous, subtle color (olive, garnet, ivory, light amber, black, etc).
Even though we got an extra hour today, boy, it didn't really feel like it. Before I knew it most of the day was gone! Anyway, I did get a lot done, and now it's time to relax. :)
Have a great night, and here's the new auction...
Connecticut Christmas

The response to Vicki Walker's bracelet has been overwhelming! I've been reading and answering e-mails every spare minute I've had, which has meant that the new auction I was going to start tomorrow will start Sunday instead. I just knew that bracelet would be a huge hit. I've had a lot of questions about the bracelet so here's the lowdown...
  • Vicki actually silversmiths the charms and toggle that read, "live, love, laugh"
  • I decided that I will make custom lentils for beads that will go into any jewelry created by artists seen on my "Designers' Corner" page (which of course, includes beads for Vicki's bracelet
  • Buy the beads from me, and I'll ship them to Vicki to be put in your bracelet
  • You don't have to buy the beads from me, but I'd appreciate it if you do! :)
  • I'll be charging $44 for two medium-sized lentils and a round bead (the $45 includes shipping)
  • You may want to look through my closed auctions or my "Ebay Archive" page to see some lentil designs since I don't have any on my "Beads" page.
  • Vicki will charge $70 for the materials and construction of her bracelet
  • Choose just about any color scheme you'd like!
  • Please e-mail me with any questions - I will write back quickly!
And a pic of the bracelet...
Live, Love, Laugh
Anyway, have a fantastic Friday evening - I'm off to make dinner (I think oven-fried chicken tonight). I'll check in tomorrow - Bye!

Monday, 8:30 pm 10-24-05
Man, I had a great weekend. The weather was good to us on Saturday so I did end up getting to work out in the yard ( After a full day outside, Steve and I went to my folks and played pinochle till almost midnight. Sunday was all about cleaning the house, and it was sooo clean by the end of the day. Unfortunately, Max is shedding his coat and even though I'm brushing him every day, his fur is literally coming out in tufts, so I'm finding dog hair here and there. I feel like I need to follow him around with a vaccuum!
My ebay auction is going pretty well (since I splurged to be in the "featured" section). I haven't ever this many people "watching" my auction, but the price is still realatively low. Well, come to find out, a lot of people are using sniping software now, so the price doesn't go up till the end. That's great news, but it's hard on my heart, don't you know. :) Good grief, those last few minutes can be a roller coaster!
Speaking of beads, I added a new bracelet to my bracelet section (second page) called "Helen" (because "Barb" was already taken). :) So Barb, if you want to be surprised when it comes in the mail, don't look!
The highlight of my day today though was coming home after a parent meeting (got home around 6:00) to find a package for me from Vicki Walker of Inside was a bracelet that seriously took my breath away. I actually said out loud, "Sweet mother of all that is good and pure". I took a picture of it and will post it tomorrow for you all to see. It's drop-dead gorgeous. Thanks so much Vicki!!! So, make sure you come back tomorrow to see it!
Till then, have a great Monday night, and I'll be back tomorrow!

Friday, 6:30 pm 10-21-05
Yay! The auctions are up and running! And I did decide to splurge for the "featured item" area because I just really liked this set and would like it to be seen by as many folks as possible. So now, we'll have to see if it was worth it!
It was a beautiful day here today - it must've been in the mid-60's which is quite warm for this time of year. I was hoping to get out in the yard, but there's only so much time. It's supposed to get a little nasty this weekend, so I guess I lost my chance.
Tonight, Steve and I'll watch the second and third (and probably fourth) episode of Band of Brothers. I went to the wine store and bought our favorite bottle of wine, so that'll make it even more fun! If you like a nice chardonnay, you have to try Mer Soleil - it's my absolute favorite. It's a tad on the pricey side, so you definitely get it to enjoy the taste, not just for the sake of "drinking".
Speaking of consumption, I better get moving and get dinner going. I bought some fresh Japanese noodles, and am going to do a beef and vegetable stir fry. Yum!
Oh - and the auctions... I'm actually surprised they all came out as well as they did because while I was making them, I was sporting a really unhealthy "Smarties" buzz to the point I had the shakes. Darned Halloween candy. A girl can only be so strong you know - when it's in the house, it must be eaten. I mean, there are "Smarties" wrappers in every room of the house right now. :)

Monday, 9:45 pm 10-17-05
I've been working my fingers to the bone finishing up a bunch of custom orders, and am planning a new auction soon. I have a color combo in mind, but before I have the chance to do it, I'm going to have to wait for my glass order to get here. I'm all out of black. I hate running out of my staple colors, but the glass is on its way, so it shouldn't be too long. In the meantime, I'm thinking about another set I might try. It's been a while since I've done any in the pillow shapes, so that's my next goal. Give me a couple of days though - between work and getting stuff done around the house, well... there just aren't enough hours in the day!
So have a great day tomorrow and come back maybe Thursday to see the new auction!

Friday, 7:00 am 10-14-05
Well, I might need your help! I got an e-mail through ebay last night that said this...
"hi, for some reason I have not been able to view the pictures in the last few auctions you have posted- have you had anyone else indicate they have problems with the pictures???"
GREAT! So... I haven't had anyone else say anything, but if you have had problems with the pics, please drop me an e-mail - THANKS!
Anyway, I have to motor. I'll check in tomorrow - Have a great Friday!

Today: Tuesday, 6:30 pm 10-11-05
Not much to say today except that I finished some more custom orders today and found enough time to make a lasagne for dinner. That means leftovers tomorrow, which means more time to make beads! And that's what it's all about, right?
So the new auction's going now, and it's really funky - I love it! Hope you do too. Here's a pic (if you click on it, it'll take you to the auction...
Prima Donna

Saturday, 11:00 am 10-8-05
Wow - it's been a week since I've updated here. That should tell you how crazy things have been. Work was great this week, but very busy, so my time at the torch has been next to nothing. Today I have a couple of custom orders to do, but tomorrow is "auction day"! I have a color scheme in my head that I'll be using, and it'll start Monday. Again - I'm staying out of the "featured items" area for now. I'm hoping that my customers will follow me even though I won't be up there at the top. So far, it's been working out great. It's just so darned expensive ($20) just to be up there!!! Some would say that it's worth it, but my husband Steve always knows how to put things in perspective. He said to me, "You need to remember why you got involved with glass beads in the first place." Meaning, forget about the money part of it, and just have fun. That's some great advice.
Speaking of Steve, he actually took the camera to his work this past week and took some pictures from his office so I could see what his view looks like. Now, I'm not one for heights (just looking at the pictures makes my toes tingle), but for those who haven't seen Seattle, here are some pretty cool shots. I should mention that he didn't get any facing north, which would be the actual "downtown" area (towards the Space Needle and all of that). Maybe next time! Anyway, enjoy the pics!

I don't think I could handle this. This shot is right out of his window looking down, down, down onto the streets of downtown Seattle. Ugh.
Looking down

This picture is heading east, towards our house. That's Lake Washington separating Seattle from Bellevue (where we live). You can see downtown Bellevue, which is growing incredibly fast. Our house would actually be off to the left of the picture (actually a bit off of the picture). In the distance you can also see the Cascade mountains.

Here's a pic facing west, right into Puget Sound.

Now we're facing southwest towards the industrial area of Seattle. This is the port area, and you can see the cargo that's been delivered by the many container vessels. That strip of road that the cars are travelling on (down near the bottom of the pic) is called the Alaskan Way Viaduct. "Experts" have said that in a large earthquake (which we are expected to have someday), it'll most likely collapse. Happy travelling! :)

That's it for now, I'm off to make some beads - Yahoo!!! Enjoy your Saturday!

Saturday, 4:45 pm 10-1-05
Hey, happy October! It's hard to believe Halloween's around the corner, but I have to admit, I love Halloween. I don't usually dress up, but I love the underlying "spooky" feeling. Truth be known, I have a dark side - I love to read Stephen King and Ann Rule, and am a sucker for really scary movies. Last night to start the "scary season", Steve and I watched "Sleepy Hollow" with Johnny Depp. It was a great movie (has Johnny Depp ever been bad? I even liked him in "Ed Wood"). Anyhow, I think tonight we might even treat ourselves to another scary movie - we'll see.
I found some time to fit another auction in with the custom orders, so keep an eye out tomorrow for a couple (maybe three) auctions tomorrow. There'll be one set, and one - but hopefully two focals (depending on how it turns out).
Please come back and take a look tomorrow - till then, have a great Saturday night!

Thursday, 7:00 pm 9-29-05
Finally a new auction! Yahoo! I also wanted to let everyone know (and I put a note in my "auctions" section too) that I won't be putting my auctions in the "featured" section for a while, so you won't see me up there. That means, you'll have to scroll down a bit to find me or do it the easy way and bookmark my seller's list (or click on one of my links here). I plan to make some beads soon too, so hopefully I'll have a new bead set up within the next few days.
I plan to make some beads soon, so hopefully I'll have a new bead set up for auction within the next few days.
I'm so looking forward to the weekend, you just don't know. I almost got bit by one of my students the other day at work (no, not a lampworking student). :) It's just going to be nice to kick back, relax, and make some beads.
Speaking of work, Steve has a new contract (computer geek) with the City of Seattle, and is working in a high rise downtown (I think it's on the 55th floor). Anyway, it was pretty darn windy today, and he said the building was actually rumbling up there. Ugh!!! There's no way on God's green earth I'd be able to be up there. Just thinking of it makes my toes tingle.
So on a happier note, here's my new auction...
Autumn-Fever Mini Perfume Bottle

Wednesday, 9:30 pm 9-21-05
Well, it's been a good day and a not-so-good day. The not-so-good was a bummer. I was making a perfume bottle (which was coming out lovely), and yup, just as I had almost finished it... it flopped. UGH!!!!!! And see, that's why I don't take orders for those! If I had just spent an hour making (and then ruining) one, knowing I had to buck up and start all over right away because someone was waiting for their bottle would send me over the edge. Today I just had to scream out some choice expletives, and go watch a few minutes of Judge Judy. :)
The good things... Well, I had a great day at work (I love it when I feel like I'm actually making progress with a student), but most fun of all, Steve got a new bike! He road bikes, and has for about twenty years. He's hard-core, too. I tried biking with him once, and it was torture for the both of us - and I've always been really athletic. He's quite a few years older than me, and he can run (or bike as the case may be) circles around me. Anyway, he's had this Softride bike for almost eight years, and today he finally bought himself a new bike. This time it's a Trek Madone SL 5.2 (I think). He's totally psyched - he knows about all of the components and everything, and I just think it's black, pretty and shiny. Oh well, the fun part is seeing him finally getting something he's wanted for a few years now.
One more nugget of info... If you've wanted one of my auctions it may be a good time to buy! I've decided to put the kibosh on the featured items for now and see how they go. It costs $20 to be up there! Anyway, I know a lot of my clients just expect me to be in that featured area, and since I'm not, they think I don't have any auctions going (unless they go to my seller's list of course). Anyway, I've received a couple of e-mail asking when I'm going to have a new auction, and I had to write back, "There's one there now!!!" Anyhoo, it might be a great time to buy. ;) And here's the set...
Bathing in Bordeaux

Sunday, 11:15 am 9-18-05

I'm still feeling pretty crummy - I can't remember the last time I've been sick this long, and it started getting worse last night. Ugh. Anyway, I just haven't been up to torching much, but will have an auction ready for tomorrow night.
So the Max thing... (Read Thursday's thing below to see what I'm talkin' about)... Turns out, opinions are mixed. Some have said, "My pets have a similar connection with me, my husband, etc", and some have dismissed it to science: "He must hear the car coming." Except that he does it when a) The car would be too far away for him to hear it, and b) When Steve's riding his bike. So who knows, it's fun to ponder.
I've been struggling to take some decent pictures with my camera for a couple of publications. Man, it just doesn't look "right". I mean, my pics are fine for ebay and for my website, but to get that professional look, I'm having a tough time. I know I could pay a professional like I've done in the past, but the thing is, I know I'll need to take pictures every now and then, and I don't want to have to plunk down a couple hundred bucks every time. I'm on a deadline too, so I better get my act in gear. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Ironically, one of my wine stoppers is featured in a photography article in the new "Bead Unique" magazine. It's a great picture, and I'm thinking, "How did you take such a nice picture?" Anyway, back to the drawing board.
Come check back tomorrow for the new auction - Bye for now!

Thursday, 5:45 pm 9-15-05
Wow, it's been five days since I've posted here. That's a long time considering I've been home and not out on vacation somewhere. I have a feeling this is going to be a long update. The truth is, I'm having a harder time than usual adjusting to going back to work. I'm glad to be there, but I've already gotten sick! I'm sporting a nasty cold (as are many of my students believe it or not), and I've just been pooped. I mean, I didn't make it a week before coming down with something! I can't bring myself to call in sick, and the sick kids are there too, so I guess I'll just have to literally and figuratively "get over it".
Peg's party last weekend was awesome! I was brain-dead and forgot my camera, so unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures. I got to see my bead buddies and was lucky enough to meet Erika Schultz, who's in town helping Corina for a while. Erika's featured in my designers' gallery, but it was the first time I'd met her face-to-face. She's a pistol too! She's tall, pretty, and has personality coming out of her ears. We had a great time.
On to a topic that I know is going to make some of you think I'm nuts. Okay... I think my dog can read my husband's mind or something. There... I said it. Before you call the white coats on me, please read. I'd love to hear if anyone else has experienced this. First off, I should say that Max really takes to me. I'm his "parent of preference", but it's Steve that he's somehow connected with. When Steve leaves for a length of time (say two or more hours at a time), Max will sit by the window and wait for him to come home. I should also say that Steve is a homebody, his business is at home, and he likes to hang around the house and work on projects here, so he doesn't go out that often for that length of time. Plus, he never leaves and comes home at the same time. On many, many occasions, out of the blue while Max is waiting for Steve, he'll spring up, run to the back door and I'll follow thinking, "Oh, Max must have seen Steve drive up". I open the garage... nothing. Less than a minute later, Steve comes home. The way our house sits, there's no way that Max could see Steve coming home, and the timing's such that he'd be too far away to hear him coming home. So then you say, "Maybe he feels the vibration from the car?" Well, yesterday he did it when Steve had been on a three-hour bike ride. Max went to the garage door, I open it... nothing. I go to the front window, stand there for about twenty seconds, and here comes Steve around the corner. I'm telling you, it's spooky. Now, I also have a witness! I told my mother-in-law about this while we were visiting them in Spokane. Steve and his dad were golfing (they'd been gone about two hours), and I told Steve's mom about what Max does when Steve's gone for a couple of hours or so. I don't know if she believed me when I told her, but she sure did after she saw him do it at her house!!! I think it spooked her pretty good too. :) Anyway, has anyone else ever seen anything like this? I'd love to hear about it!
Oh yeah - bead stuff! I hope to be sitting at the torch tomorrow and maybe Saturday, so I want to have an auction ready for Sunday. That's what I'm shooting for anyway. You know me though... Well, keep your fingers crossed.

Saturday, 9:30 am 9-10-05
It's going to be a great day today because Peg Medill's having one of her lampwork parties today. It's a very, very wet and cool day here, so it'll be perfect to be indoors watching people torch!
What else is new... Oh! Soon, there are going to be a couple of charity auctions to benefit the Red Cross and animal rescue - Humane Society. Several artists participated in each (myself included), and I hope it does well. When the auction starts, I'll post a link here.
I had a great day at work the other day. I was eating lunch with a few of my students in the high school cafeteria, and they do a new thing there, where they blast music. And I mean, it feels like you're at a bar or dance club. Anyway, a song started, and this one student who has Tourette's Syndrome stood up and started to dance. Most of the kids know him (I can't remember if he's a sophmore or junior), but there were a lot of freshmen in the cafeteria too who weren't familiar with him. Anyway, when he hears music, he feels it... deep. He started dancing - and mean all out, no holds barred, the kind of dancing you do when you're certain no one is watching. He was an awesome dancer though. He started at one side of the cafeteria, and just danced around the entire lunchroom. You should have seen the looks on the kids' faces - most didn't know what to think. Anyway, I was thinking, "Oh man, what's going to happen when the song's over... Are they going to laugh at him?" So as he made his way around the room dancing like he was the only one in the world, the song ended. There was about two seconds of silence. And then... The whole cafeteria erupted in cheering and applause. It was awesome! The kids loved it (like I said, the kid really knew how to dance). He had the biggest smile on his face as people gave him high-fives and pats on the back. It was just the coolest thing I'd ever seen. So for those who think that high school kids are just rotten, I'll have to kindly disagree. :) And now, whenever I hear Nelly's "It's Gettin' Hot in Here", I'll think of him.

Wednesday, 6:30 pm 9-7-05
About two days ago I had my car broken into and today, was rear-ended. What kind of luck is that??? Well actually, it's not that bad. The accident caused very little damage (just a bit of paint on my bumper) and nothing was taken or damaged from my car (ahem, yeah - that's because I left the car unlocked and there was nothing to take unless they wanted the stock CD player which apparently didn't interest them). So really, I guess someone didn't "break into" my car as much as they opened it up and rummaged through my stuff. Live and learn. Anyway, is it a full moon or something?
The new auctions are up and going (and there's still one more day on my Halloween auction). I'm totally diggin' this new set and the matching heart, so I hope you like it also...
Oh - I almost forgot! Steve has an auction going right now!!! He's selling his espresso machine. The thing's as good as new and it's from Crate and Barrel. It's a totally cool-looking machine - a nice retro-ish bright red. Anyway, he wants a different espresso machine, so he's selling this one. If you're in the market for an esspresso maker - please check it out! You can click the picture to take you to the auction. :)
What Makes Fall Fabulous Fabulous Fall Heart

Wednesday, 7:30 am 9-7-05
I'm just heading off to work, but wanted to check in to remind you that I have a new auction starting tonight - please come back and check it out! :) Bye for now!
Also, I'm really happy to finally offer my "Inspiration Bracelets"! You're free to order them with just about anything stamped into the silver (as long as it fits) - your name, your child's name, something inspirational, etc. :) Right now, they can be ordered in either a 3-bead or 5-bead style. In the next few days I may sell the 5-bead style I have on hand now, but we'll see. The 3-bead style will sell for $75, and the 5-bead style will be $100. I'll be adding them to my jewelry page where you'll find more info, but for now, here's a couple views of the 3-bead version... (I love 'em)!!!

Monday, 5:45 pm 9-5-05
Happy Labor Day! I was so happy to have today to spend at the torch - I made a new auction that will probably start Wednesday night, and it's a killer, if I do say so myself. It's a wonderful fall color combo, but that's all I'm going to say. :)
Aside from making beads today, I've been a very busy bee getting ready to launch a new bracelet design. They're made, and I hope to have them on my site tomorrow night. I think I may sell one of them (already made - no waiting) from my site too. I have to work tomorrow, so it'll be interesting to see how out of synch I am with my old schedule. I'm going to try to get it out there though, because I'm awfully excited about them! Please check back!

Today: Saturday, 6:30 pm 9-3-05
Okay, so between yard work and beads, beads won today (big surprise). :) But finally, I made something for me!!! I hope they turned out - I made some new styles with colors that can be "iffy". You know - the diva colors, tempermental, hard to work with. Actually only one or two were "divas", but that's enough to wonder how they're going to look when they come out of the kiln.
The new auction's up and running - my version of a Halloween set. Hope you like it, and here it is...
Haute and Happy Halloween
I've also been working on new knob/drawer-pull designs lately. I absolutely love this new style (I wish I got to keep it for myself, but I'll be giving it to a very nice gal I'm doing a trade with). Here's a pic the new knob...
One more thing... Just the other day I received a very nice e-mail from a gal who informed me that one of my wine stoppers is in the fall issue of Bead Unique. It's not an article about my beads or wine stoppers, but an article about photography from Table Top Studio. They bought one of my stoppers a couple of months ago and have used it to demonstrate how to photograph using a "graduated" background. It's on page 45 if you're interested. :) By the way - I think this issue is their best so far - lots of great articles!
Speaking of Bead Unique, make sure you check out the winter issue (which won't be out till end of November). My mom, Geoff (Steve's son), and I did a really fun article for the issue!

Woo-Hoo! I'm back, and back for good this time. No more little trips to Montana or Spokane for a while. School's back in session, so that's it for summer break - it's hard to believe. As usual, I didn't get half of what I'd hoped I'd get done this summer. I actually think I made less beads, mostly because of Steve and I taking off here and there throughout the summer.
So... beads... I have a very cool auction starting tomorrow - it's my take on a Halloween set. I hope you all like it!
I received a very nice e-mail from a gal who informed me that one of my wine stoppers is in the fall issue of Bead Unique.
Check back tomorrow for the auction!!!

Saturday, 7:30 am 8-27-05
I'm taking another quick break to go take Lauren back to college in Missoula, but will be back shortly! School (work - whatever) starts for me in a few days too, so I need to be back. The summer went by so fast, as it usually does. It was fun, though! I appreciated every single day of it. :)
Since I'll be away again for a few days, that means that the auction that's ending tomorrow evening will be it for about a week. You know, I just bought something yesterday that would've gone perfect with those beads. I knew I should've kept them to myself!!! :) Anyway, here they are...

Happy Birthday Mom!
Yes, I'm finally back, and the first thing I need to do is say Happy Birthday to my "Super-Mom"! She's the best, and we'll be celebrating her birthday tomorrow night with a delicious salmon barbecue.
So, where've I been? Well, Steve, Geoff, and I went to Missoula, picked up Lauren, and brought her back here for her last chance at summer vacation before her university starts up again. I bet you thought I'd fallen off the face of the earth! Well, the absolute opposite actually (or at least it felt like the opposite). Steve, Lauren and I climbed up Mount Rainier a couple of days ago - it felt like we were on the top of the world! We didn't climb to the summit (heck no), but we did trek in an area that is very steep, very snowy, and has been fatal to even experienced climbers (due to sudden weather changes - it's very easy to get disoriented up there). If you'd like to see some pics of the hike, click here or the pic below of Lauren and I on the mountain!

About beads... Well, I need to do some custom orders - there are folks out there who have been very patient while I took a little break, so I need to work on those. I had already started an auction, so if I can squeeze a few beads in here and there in the next day or so, I might have enough for a small auction soon. I'd check back Tuesday for that - I do have a goal to have one started by then. Thanks so much for not abandoning me while I was gone, and thanks so much for all of the nice e-mails wondering when I would be returning!

Saturday, 9:25 pm 8-6-05
Today was a great day. Steve and I worked out in the yard all day. We really got a lot done, and it was absolutely beautiful out there, so I even got a little sunshine to boot!
Today was also grooming day for Max. After we worked out in the yard (and yes, Max gets dirty out there too), he got a bath in the backyard, had his nails trimmed, I gave him his Frontline medicine, and later brushed him. He was only slightly traumatized by the overwhelming attention to his body. You would think by this picture below that he was lovin' every minute of it.

Have a great Sunday. I might have a new auction coming up, but if I do, it'll probably start Thursday. I need to get crackin' again with the custom orders!

Thursday, 8:45 pm 8-4-05
I can't believe I did it, but I sat at the torch today and worked on a custom order. I had to though, because it's "due". It was almost 90 degrees today, and by that last bead I thought I was going to pass out. I didn't really feel like I had much of a choice though - I hate making people wait for their beads, and I told this gal that they'd be done by today. I remember before I satrted lampworking, I had bought some beads from an artist (special ordered them), and I was so excited to get them, so I know how it is.
I do have a couple of pictures of a bracelet that I made for Lauren. I love it!!! The silver bar thingy was made by Michelle Neff. I've been wanting to learn how to do that alphabet stamping for over a year now, but I just haven't found the time. Anyway, I got one for Lauren and one for me. Now to find time to make some beads for myself... :) I sent it to Lauren, and she said she really loves it, so thanks Michelle! I thought I'd show you a couple views of it...

Wednesday, 6:30 pm 8-3-05
The new auction's up and running - it's a very soft, feminine set. That french vanilla color is actually called "silver pink". Why? I don't know - it's neither silver or pink, but that's the name they gave me. :) Hope you like it.
I'm off to make dinner - I don't even know what I'm going to make yet. I just don't feel like doing a darn thing! Anyway, here's the new set...

I'm so swamped today that I can't take much time to write, but all's well! I'm going to leave what I wrote yesterday about my dad below just because I'm that happy for and proud of him!
After almost a 40-year hiatus from watercoloring, my dad's back with a vengance. Our whole family couldn't be more proud of him, but most of all, he's having (what seems to all of us) the time of his life! We can't hardly pry him from his studio, and I'm so excited to be able to show you some of his work. As I mentioned yesterday, they just keep getting better and better (in my opinion), so I'll be sure to show more soon. He's thinking about selling them, but hasn't quite decided what route to go. But hey, if you're interested in one, let me know and I'll see what I can do. :)

It has been so darn hot here, that I haven't gone near the torch for days (so sorry if you're waiting for an order - I'll get it done as soon as I possibly can). It's been in the upper 80's, and I'm sure many of you down in the south are rolling your eyes right about now, but to us, it's like we're living on the threshold of hell itself. Now, I love really warm weather, but when I can't torch, I get a little crabby. :) It's supposed to cool off a bit tomorrow, so I hope to get something done then.
One great thing about hot, hot weather, means that we'll be barbecueing. Tonight, it's hamburgers and hot dogs and darn it all if I'm not going to have one of each!!!
One cool thing we've did yesterday though, is go over to my folks' house, which is just maybe a ten-minute drive. My dad, who's a couple years shy of 80, is just starting to watercolor again. He was in management at Boeing for many years in the graphic arts department. Anyway, he used to be a really great watercolor artist, but hadn't even touched it for about 40 years. He decided this past spring he'd like to get going with it again, and he's just been on a roll. I think they're amazing, and every painting he does, just keeps getting better and better. I took some pictures while we were over there. When I get them downloaded, I'll post some of them here. I think eventually he'd like to sell them, but my brother and I get first picks!
So I guess that's it for now - it's been too hot to really do much else other then sit around and veg-out. I should enjoy it while I can though - fall is right around the corner. Bye for now!

Wednesday, 5:30 pm 7-27-05
Today's Steve's and my 3-year wedding anniversary! While we've been together for ten years, we were just married in 2002, so tonight we're going to celebrate! We're planning a nice, late, romantic dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. I can't wait! We said we weren't going to get each other anything, but then he went and had a dozen red roses delivered to the house today. What a stinker! Here's us three years ago to the day...
July 27, 2002
I made a bunch of beads today - some for the next auction, but mostly for a magazine article I'm getting ready to do. My goal is to have it all finished and ready to go to the editor within the week, so it's a good thing I worked on those today. I'll tell you all more about the article as the release date gets closer.
Well, I'd better start getting ready for dinner. I'd like to look nice tonight. The irony is, that I'll spend more time to get ready tonight than I did on my wedding day. For those who haven't heard the story... I was rushed on my wedding day, thanks to a couple of glitches. Anyway, I had ten minutes to get dressed, put on my make-up and do my hair before I had to go have pictures taken. I was quite the spectacle, but of course, everything turned out fine. I'll spend every anniversary trying to make up for it. :)

Wednesday, 5:20 pm 7-27-05
The auctions are up and running - lots of fun, bright colors! See the pics below... :)
I spent part of the afternoon teaching a private lesson which went pretty well - there just never seems like enough time. I must say that I was pretty impressed with how well she was able to get a nice, round bead. That's not an easy thing to do as a beginner, but she did it! I remember when I first started, it must have taken me a week just to get a slightly-round-shaped bead. It was much more like the shape of a football with sharp, jagged edges. I felt like I would never get the hang of it. It's a lot like rubbing your tummy and patting your head at the same time at first. It's one of those things that can only be remedied by practice. Fun times!

So here are the new auctions (hope you like 'em)...

Monday, 8:15 pm 7-25-05
Well, the auction that I planned for today will be ready to go tomorrow. I did end up getting another migraine, but I took the new medicine, and poof! It was gone. It was like a miracle. Now, I'm the last person one would call a "drama queen", but I felt like my whole world changed when I realized it worked. I probably sound like a cheap commercial, but I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders.
That being said, it did make me feel a little "weird" (don't know how else to describe it), so I thought I'd better stay away from the torch. Anyhoo, check back tomorrow if you like smaller, super-colorful, detailed beads.

Speaking of tomorrow, I'm teaching a private lesson in the morning, so I get to hang out and watch someone else torch for a change. Should be lots of fun (hopefully for the both of us)! :)

Friday, 8:30 pm 7-22-05
I've been totally laid up the past couple of days with a kick-butt migraine. It's been a while since I've had one, and holy cow it was a whopper. I always know when I'm going to get them because I start to see what they call an "aura". I get blind spots in my vision which look a little like heat waves, sparkly amoebas, etc. It's really freaky. I've always had a hard time explaining it to my friends and family, so I thought I'd doctor up a photo so it could be better understood. Mind you, the picture I made isn't perfect - the blind spot is usually moving, very heat-wavish or something. Anyway...
Here's what my sweet little Max looks like on any normal day... And this is how he looks when I'm starting to get a migraine...
Max Migraine Max

I know, it's pretty creepy, but that's my point. And it goes downhill from there. So, if you've written me in the past few days, please know that I will write back. I actually did manage to reply to some e-mails, but it wasn't easy. If they didn't make much sense or were filled with typos, please forgive me. :)
On the bright side, I did get some new medicine - something called Maxalt, and if it works I'll be beside myself with giddiness.
Anyway, due to the fact that I've been in bed for the past couple of days, I haven't made any new beads. I have a few custom orders I need to do tomorrow, but I'm going to try to squeeze an auction in. The earliest it'll be before a new auction shows up will be Sunday, but you know me... Much more likely to be Monday or Tuesday. Have a great weekend!

Sunday, 6:30 pm 7-17-05
I know, I know, the auction's early. I tried to post a note earlier (as soon as I could). I just decided I didn't want to wait another day and found a little bit of time to put it out there.
It's a warm one here today (hooray) and we're enjoying a salmon barbecue. No one knows how to barbecue like Steve does, so he's treating Geoff, Lauren, and I to his specialty. Lauren's heading back to Montana tomorrow, but will be back in August for one last visit before school starts. It's her last year in college, and boy is she ready to be finished. It's going to be fun to see what she does after college - she's a go-getter, so whatever she does, I know she'll thrive. Anyway, hope you like the new auction, and like it says in the auction, this color-combo's going to have to be ebay-only for now.
Here's the new auction...
Viva la Violet!

Friday, 1:15 pm 7-15-05
I'm sorry to have to say it, but my next auction had to be postponed until Monday. Lauren (Steve's daughter) flew into town for the weekend - taking a short vacation away from her work and school, and we'll be wanting to spend as much time with her as we can. Plus, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale started today (which Lauren and I will be hitting in about an hour), so my priorities have shifted a little. :)
Max is till sporting "the cone" - poor little guy - and he's hating it. I don't know when I've seen such a sad little puppy. I have to keep reminding myself that it's for his own good, and as soon as we take it off, he'll forget the misery he's suffering now and all will be fine with the world again. The saddest part is when he has an itch behind his ear, and he tries to use his hind leg to get it, but all he ends up doing is scratching the cone. That's when I drop whatever I'm doing at the time and try desperately to scratch the itch for him. I have a lot of empathy for him. Growing up, I broke my arms four times (every other year starting when I was five). I know what it's like when you have an itch and you can't get to it. It's horrible!

Anyway, I promise to have the auction out Monday, and I hope you'll find it worth the wait. Take care!

Wednesday, 9:15 am 7-13-05
My poor, poor puppy Max has to wear "the dreaded cone". I took him to the vet yesterday because he'd been licking his paw constantly all day. The vet said it was "Acute Lick Granuloma", which basically means that either something bit him or he was somehow injured on his little knee, and his constant licking of it has made it worse causing an infection. Yuck. Poor little guy had his knee shaved, is on anti-biotics, and now has to wear the cone till it's completely healed. I know you probably won't believe this (I swear I'm not exaggerating one bit), but when I tried to take his picture, he turned his back to me. Five times!!! Did he know I was taking his picture? I don't think so, but it was so funny because my first thought was, "He's so humiliated, he doesn't even want his picture taken"! Finally, he let me, so here's my little buddy - you can see his owie on his paw. :(

On a happier note, I planted my geraniums, and even went back for more flowers - man, buying plants and flowers is addictive. I got a couple of pots, filled them with petunias, lobelia, etc. It's amazing how a little color can really perk up the yard. I'm no floral designer, but I do love flowers - especially in containers. Here's one of my little projects (I'm hoping the lobelia will bloom more to get more of the blue color in there)...

I forgot to post a couple of pictures from our vacation. Here are a couple of pics taken from a hike Steve and I went on. His family owns property around the Fairfield area, just outside of Spokane. There's a mountain we like to hike on, and while we were there, the weather was perfect for a day hike. We didn't see any wild animals (I wasn't too sad about that), but we did have the "best view in the house" of the gorgeous Pallouse.

Me Steve
This is when we were first getting going - we had to get through quite a bit of brush to get to the top. Here's Steve checking out the beatuiful view of the surrounding area. Look at him all decked out in his hiking outfit. :) He was prepared for anything!

Anyway, we had a great time. We always look forward to spending time on "the mountain", and I'm sure we'll be up there again before the end of summer!

Sunday 7-10-05
Two new auctions!
Yay - Two new auctions! Here they are...
So This is Love So This is Love - Hollow Heart
Saturday, 5:15 pm 7-9-05
It's taken a little longer than I thought it would to get back in my routine after going on vacation. I do have an auction that'll start tomorrow though, so I'm not way behind or anything. Aside from getting back from vacation, I've started working out again, which both feels great and hurts a lot all at once. I've always been really athletic, but these past few years, I've become what I always said I wouldn't... sedentary. It's hard not to though, when I spend hours just sitting at the torch. Why did I have to become obsessed with something that lacked any physical activity whatsoever? Ugh! Anyhoo, I've been running a lot - I mean like Forest Gump style. It's not so much that I want to lose weight, but just feel better, stronger again. I miss that. So I do have an auction that starts tomorrow which includes two brand new colors I haven't ever used before. Yahoo!

Thursday, 10:15 am 7-7-05
I'm back! Steve and I went east of the mountains for about a week to visit Lauren in Missoula (at college) and his folks in Spokane. It was such a great time - it was hard to come home. I missed the torch, but only a little - we just had too much fun. I'll try to post some pics later, if any turned out. I'm going to be at the torch today, but I'll be making things for myself today!!! I will try to get an auction in there, but I can't make any promises. I do plan to have one either Saturday or Sunday, so please check back!
I've added a short "tutorial" (although it might be more of an editorial) on when beads are "good enough to sell". It's meant to be a general guidline (and just my opinion). If you go to my tutorial section, you can click on the link to that topic.

Peg's Lampworker's Challenge Party was a big success! Click here to see some pics.
Hi all! I just wanted to pop in here to say I'm taking a short break, but will be back with a "fire-y" vengance in about ten days. I'm hoping I don't go throug htorch withdrawl, but I need a short little "vacation". :) Talk to you soon!
